Nehalen Bay State Park -- Oregon Coast

Yesterday - Monday, July 19th, we left Seaside and moved about 25 miles south on US 101 to Nehalem Bay State Park between the towns of Manzanita and Nehalem. There was a pull-out with a great view of the area a couple of miles before we got here.

After we got our campsite set up, LaVerne put out a couple of bird feeders - by this morning we had hummingbirds, Dark-eyed Juncos, and a rare treat for us - a Chestnut-backed Chickadee.

Today we went riding - into the town of Manzanita, then down the coast about 25 miles through the towns of Nehalem, Wheeler, and Garibaldi to Tillamook. Bob & Phyllis, we remembered when y’all stayed at the Old Mill RV Park in Garibaldi several years ago. Here’s a picture of an interesting rock formation at one of the places we found a beach access.

The people who live all along the Oregon Coast really pride themselves in their flowers - eye-popping color in most of the yards and flower beds of businesses. This first picture is in a yard in Manzanita and the flower bed is at the Tillamook Cheese Factory.

Speaking of the Tillamook Cheese Factory - you can’t go down US 101 and not stop at this place! Not only do they make cheese that is famous all along the west coast, but they make some of the best ice cream imaginable. Today, the place was packed as usual - we went in the gift shop, and then each of us got a giant 2-scoop waffle cone. OUTSTANDING!! Here’s a picture - all of you familiar with this area will surely recognize it.

Hwy 131 takes off from Tillamook and goes west to the small towns of Netarts and Oceanside and to Cape Meares where the Cape Meares Lighthouse is located. Some really beautiful scenery of the Oregon Coast as viewed from the cape.

Tomorrow we're moving on - a little farther down the Oregon Coast!
